Chimney Waterproofing
Chimneys, and brick masonry can take a lot of abuse – especially from rain, snow, and the freezing cold. While it may seem surprising, water can do a considerable amount of damage to brick and masonry chimneys. We’re not so much talking about rain – but more about water seeping into the brickwork and degrading the grout, or hurting the brick itself. Perhaps the greatest risk comes when water seeps into and between brick masonry work, and then freezes. When water freezes, it expands ever so slightly, and can subtly force bricks away from one another. This in turn can allow more water deeper and deeper into your chimney brick work, which can cause increasing damage – to your chimney itself, and do your attic, insulation, and beyond. Avoid all of this by waterproofing your chimney. While we don’t recommend this service for all chimneys, it certainly makes sense for some. Waterproofing can unlock considerable cost savings, and can help you avoid costly repairs to chimneys, brickwork, and masonry damaged by water and freezing temperatures.
Waterproofing might be a great idea after an inspection, should possible damage be discovered. |
